Have check engine codes read. Post them back on here. They will give us clues as to what's going on with it. Does it still drive ok? Is check engine light flashing?

In nearly 50 years of driving I never heard of or ever over filed the gas tank. It's a new one on me.

We didn't fill it. It came to us on a transport with a full tank of gas. we've only put 15 miles on it driving to DMV and to get it "smogged". It had been sitting for 6 months due to a death in the family..... the lights didn't come on until yesterday the 3rd time we drove it.

With it having set for so long all the lights coming on could be due to a loose battery connection, failing alternator or bad battery. This is where I would look first.

Drive it. Go around the block on till you feel sure that it's reliable then go for a nice long ride. Like T.S. Said the fuel is probly one step away from varnish.

Try a can of injector cleaner or some such similar product (check at your local auto parts store) it "may" help you get enough energy out of your old gas to use up enough of the tank, so fresh gas can be added at a 1/4 down and more as you use up the current gas.

Bohomark, I did the same thing and now have the same issue as dandyoun. It's not that hard to do if you keep on trying to fill the hole still after you hear two clicks telling you it's full but you already paid for more and don't want to return inside for change. It's too stupid to do - but apparently not for me. Got same answer as Tennisshoes and am now praying that the evap system will purge by Friday - otherwise Toyota recommends that $1200 computer reset dandyoun mentioned. Pray for me please but Bohomark and tennisshoes, rest assured that it's not that hard to do - you just have to be real-world stupid/lazy like me.

I just filled my 2017 RAV4 Limited and the fuel pump didn't shut off as it suppose to. I smelled fuel and heard it splashing out. Had the car washed immediately but the smell inside is overwhelming. Hopefully I do not get any lights and if so they go off quickly.

overfilling or underfilling a rav4 can cost you 1000 dollars plus, believe me, I have the bill to prove it.
