2012 Chevy equinox engine
Bought a 2012 Chevy equinox at a dealership it now has 127k miles on it. It did have a loud rattle when idling and had excessive oil consumption. Recently the timing belt jumped and cuased more issues to the motor resulting in basically a new engine. I Called GM and im waiting for a supervisor to contact me back on what they can help me out on. Im expecting the worse and wishing for the best. As of now im looking at over 5,000$ worth of damage to be fixed. Iv read all the posting on this site and wonder if theres any good outcome for my situation
Did you buy it new 6 years ago, or did you buy used and it's still under warranty? Makes a BIG difference... If GM has some obligation, an AREA REPRESENTATIVE is the person to talk to; they visit dealerships about weekly. If GM has no obligation (not under any warranty), they will do nothing about this car, but might offer more assistance on another purchase than they would offer an ordinary shopper. Other than that, you're probably stuck. Sorry.
Ed92626 I bought it used about 2 years ago from a local delership
Was this a used car dealer, or a GM dealership (Chevrolet, Buick, etc.). I then assume that you have no warranty. So follow advice about unwarranted cars.
a GMC dealership i have no warranty
If GM has no obligation, they will do nothing about this car. Dealership or GM might offer more assistance on another purchase than they would offer an ordinary shopper. Other than that, you're probably stuck. Remember, you've owned this car for 2 years and a lot can happen in that time; especially if the car has not be maintained well. THIS MIGHT JUST BE THE PRICE OF EDUCATION. I wish you the best
There's a recall on the oil consumption go to the dealer I got mine fixed it's a bad piston ring
Same thing Happened to my 2012 Equinox too back in December! Cost me a little over 3k. And now I had it towed back to the dealer...this time is the Transfer Case that has to be replaced, $3832 to fix. I have about 127,000 miles on my car. Might be time to let it go
MY 2012 equinox has a loud rattling noise and squeaks a lot---the squeaky sound i think is coming from the tires.
I have a 2011 Equinox. I bought it new but all warrenty were expired. IiT was put on oil consumption monitoring in December 2018. Dealer was able to add the warranty to my car. WARRANTY # 12313, to repair oil consumption issue was done this week. Work done : see photo new pistons, rings new water pump chain, new timing chain. Took it apart, put it back together, new gaskets, seals etc.. NO CHARGE.
RubyDriveThem how do I go about finding out about this recall issue!? I am currently having these issues with mine and have not received any mail about this recall!!!
For warranty and recall items, contact a dealer. They'll go by your VIN. The way cars are made today, you should inquire at a dealership every two to three years.
