I rented an lt 2012 equinox and the clerk said it was AWD, but I don't think it was how can I tell

Asked by quiski Mar 05, 2013 at 04:32 PM about the 2012 Chevrolet Equinox 1LT FWD

Question type: General

I rented a 2012 chevy equinox LT from Budget. I requested an AWD since our plane was canceled  I asked for a 4WD vehicle to drive through the snow.  I paid a heafty price for it.  I don't think it was AWD.  There were no markings for AWD on the vehicle inside or out.  How do i tell.  I want to call and discuss the error.  If it was an error.

if its awd it would have a rear diff. you can look under the back of the vehicle and see if it has a big chunk of metal with axles going to the wheels. if it does its awd since they are normally front wheel drive. if a rear diff is not present then its not awd.

This thread has a link to check the VIN. That should be on your receipt. -- http://www.cargurus.com/Cars/Discussion-t1829_ds537029

If it was a "LT", it was AWD. Front wheel drive was only available in the lowest trim level "LS". http://www.chevrolet.com/equinox-crossover- suv/features-specs/trims.html

FWD is available on all trims. The build is NOT 99% as some suggest. The VIN will be the best way to verify if its AWD or FWD. Also, you will see a AWD emblem on the hatch in the lower left corner if its equipped. (assuming no one removed it)
