Leaking oil from under oil filler cap

Asked by Brandon Oct 05, 2018 at 02:23 AM about the 2004 Dodge Stratus R/T Coupe FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So my car has this leak from under my oil filler cap, it
doesn't leak from anywhere else except from there. I have
changed the cap twice in the last 7 months and have also
put silicone underneath it to seal it a bit. What could be
causing this leak? I don't have a knock or anything unusual.
My car idles just fine and it doesn't smoke or anything.

Check and replace the pcv (positive crankcase ventilation) valve. It may be defective and causing the crankcase to build pressure forcing oil out from under the oil fill cap. Don't use silicone on the oil cap, a piece if it could dislodge and get into the engine which could plug up a vital oil passage.

Because my engine is a 6 cylinder, would there be more than one spot that has a pcv valve?
