What would be the cause of oil coming out of the crankcase vent/oil vent and going into the air filter box?

It might be a bad PCV valve, they run about 10 bucks. It be worth a try.

Just did a quick search and the this maybe a recall at dodge. I would call and check if so they might repair it for free.

Hmmm. no recall if it's a 4.7L it's the PCV in the oil fill neck or there are two "Breather" tubes one on the rear of each cylinder head they will gum up and do the same thing.

HI If its not pcv valve . or most likely It can b a bad ring or valves seals that gives a blow buy and pushes oil in filter .You can check for blow-buy take the pcv valve off when engine running to see if there's is back pressure through the hole . Good Luck. Lionel

I was getting the same problem with a brand new engine and discovered that the hose running from the PCV valve (at the oil fill tube) to the rear of the intake manifold had come loose. I believe this allows for oil to be pulled up into the breather tube that runs to the air cleaner box. I’ve found another post with the exact same situation as well.
