04 dakota overheating

Asked by Andrew Aug 20, 2020 at 11:44 AM about the 2004 Dodge Dakota 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 04 dakota is overhearing  there's no noise from the
water pump. I changed the radiator and thermostat and
burped the system. It will only over heat while driving
around the block. Let it sit running in the driveway for 40
min running and it maintained temp.

Exactly! This is a coolant circulation problem. It's very possible that the impeller inside of the water pump is rusted away. The same thing happened to me with my 2000 Grand Prix. No leaks or anything from the water pump, but it was shot. Hope that helps. Jim
