I did its brand new

Don’t bother disconnecting the battery to try to reset it. That didn’t work. It’s also a major pain. The front facia has to be removed because Dodge thought it would be clever to hide the battery under the DS headlight. If you have elf size hands . . . you might be able to do it with only removing the air intake box. But still, the code didn’t clear.

Correct. Disconnecting the battery will not fix the issue. The issue usually has something to do with your evap system. There is either an issue with the gas cap, or some sort of evaporation leak along the line (hose) from where you fill your tank, through to the gas tank itself. The most common leak is fumes escaping around the gas cap - which is why it comes up on your dash - from it no longer having a tight seal because of old, worn out, dry and/or cracked gaskets, or due to no "clicking" or too much wiggle when you push it side to side or up/down. I'd start by changing your gas cap. When you go to open it, there should be a tight seal, with no play (wiggle room). If you do change it, make sure to clean any debris out of the gas cap compartment first, then very lightly coat the rubber gasket on the new gas cap with vaseline. Autozone could not clear my codes the first, and the second time they tried - after that, they suggested an actual mechanic. My mechanic was eventually able to clear the message and all the error codes. I had 9 codes - all related to the evap system. There are a few parts that could cause it like an evap solenoid - which I already changed. It's basically trial & error to choose which to try first, and hit or miss, as to whether they will actually be the culprit. My gascap message came back after about a month, so apparently I haven't changed the correct one....yet. I'd love to hear what worked for everyone else. 2012 Dodge Avenger SXT
