How do I replace the door hinge stop on the driver's side door? The door swings closed on my legs. What a pain.

Asked by lmoschkau Aug 01, 2013 at 06:06 PM about the 2006 Nissan Altima 2.5 SL

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have the part and am pretty sure I'm capable of installing it if I can get some direction.
Would love some help:)

it should have a separate "detent" along with the hinge...sometimes they look a bit like a tweezers to provide friction so it will not come down and break an ankle...no this is an actual part which either someone unwittingly greased/oiled the assembly or is missing altogether...my advise would be visually look at this thing that looks like a big tweezers and spray it with carburetor cleaner to induce friction once more~

I think that someone in the past has gone crazy with some spray lubricant and lubricated the FRICTION part..dropping the weight on your to...so to speak~

The actual plastic hinge stop is being shaved down when the door opens and closes. When I open my window I can hear it grind in the door when it's about 2/3 down. I have 192,000 miles so the door has seen many openings and closings. I know I need to replace it.

Imoschkau...I am quite sure there's a deliberate "grab ya" to this mechanism 2006...4/ day 365 days x 7years 1460 closings per year X 11680 closings (perhaps)...yes take it to a body shop to have it replaced...how much can it be?

my very own 93 Toyota pickup had a door closing problem...so the kid removed the switch so the battery would not go dead again...stooop~ Now I've got no CHIME if the lights are left on and NO domelight, cause there is no switch....sure I'll get around to this someday, but the buggy still goes around (up to 85mph) and hauls stuff despite the sardine quarters~
