Is the 2005 Dodge Status R/T Coupe 3.0 liter engine an interference engine and what are the chances the valves are bent if the timing belt broke?

Asked by Justin Nov 05, 2015 at 01:12 AM about the 2005 Dodge Stratus R/T Coupe FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Keep in mind this is the 2005 Road and
track coupe, I don't know if there's any
difference, it's still the 2005 3.0 liter engine.

Depends on what you have, The 3.0L SOHC is non interference, the DOHC engine is an interference engine...

Well I searched up a part on the O'Reilly Auto parts website just to see all of the engine options when shooting specs. The 3.0 R/T is SOHC and the 2.7 R/T is DOHC so according to you my valves are good? Is that 100 percent likely hood sense it isn't an interference engine or is there still any change the timing belt breaking could have damaged my engine?

I don't know what you are getting at, You asked about a 3.0L motor with no description of cams. So I told you the 3.0L SOHC is a non interference engine, and the 3.0L DOHC is a interference engine. No mention of a 2.7L engine from you until now. So STILL at this point I do not know witch one you have. IF you have the 3.0L SOHC and broke a timing belt, you should be fine.

I was saying I don't think they come with a 3.0 liter DOCH atleast not according to all the stats they ask you to pick when looking up a 2005 dodge stratus part on the O'Reilly Auto Parts store website. I have the 3.0 I just wasn't sure if it was DOCH OR SOHC. Unless they just forgot to list the 3.0 DOCH as an option on their website. When it comes to the 2005 Dodge Status according to their website the R/T only comes with a 2.7 DOCH or the 3.0 SOCH which is what I have. Thanks for your help.

It also says the 3.0L SOHC 12 valve engine is non interference, the 3.0L SOHC 24 valve engine is a interference engine. I should have asked exactly what you have.

Isn't something when you think you have a source to rely on you find something? My source has no mention of a 2.7 DOHC.

Yea, according to the options to pick from on O'Reilly Auto parts website the only two engines in the R/T coupe are the V-6 2.7 and 3.0. If it's a V-6 doesn't that mean it has 12 valves? One valve per cylinder?

Ok that was stupid of me, I'll go home and see if it says anywhere on my engine how many valves it has. You've been helpful, thanks
