My BMW 318I (1984) not starting

Asked by William Oct 27, 2013 at 11:57 AM about the 1984 BMW 3 Series 318i Coupe RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

1984 318I with 256000 miles runs great, recently moved from 5000ft (where the car has been for 28 years or so down to sea level. I don't know if that would effect the air flow, but after running for 15 or 20 miles, when I shut down the car won't start unless I let it sit for a half hour or so, this just started happening a few days ago, any ideas? thanks Bill

It could be related to the altitude change- but it might just be a coincidence- you have an old, classic with a quarter mil on the clock- you will have to run through all the normal maintenance issues before you get to anything with the fuel system- (tune up, cap, rotor, wires, plugs etc.)

thanks jamnblues, you're right I need a good tune-up, One problem is I live on Tiger Island, and the BMW dealer is in the Capitol. But as I increase altitude, I suppose my settings (dealer set) will come into play, BTW they are the only mechanics for this car in the country.. Thanks again jamnblues.
