Should I buy a 2012 Subaru Impreza with 125,000 miles at $7k?

Asked by GI39H Sep 04, 2020 at 11:30 AM about the 2012 Subaru Impreza 2.0i Premium Hatchback

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

I am looking to buy a 2012 Subaru Impreza with 125k miles on it.

Would you recommend? Can I expect another 100k miles out of it?

It has had no accidents and is a clean title. Buying in New England.

It's a premium hatchback with CVT

No one can guarantee that you can get a certain amount of miles or years out a vehicle. You take you chances, but can minimize your risk by having a mechanic check it out before you purchase. Be wary, the 2.0's from 2012 have oil consumption issues.

2012 was a very tough inaugural year for this era Imp. LOTS of weird problems that never occurred in the 2002-2011 iteration. The 2.0i is indeed a wimp, straining to make its noisy CVT wind up. The manual is a far better mate for this smaller motor. You may be better off with a 2010-2011 Legacy 2.5i for similar $$, but alas, it shares the OLDER timing-belt- driven design, as well a fragile CVT. It's hard to win here.... (Disclaimer: I service and resell 2016+ OBs/Legacys in Boston)
