02 grand jeep cherokee reverse just went all of a sudden than about a half n hour or so it started making grinding noise what could it be

All of a sudden my reverse just went than
about a half hour later it started to grind
when in reverse what should i check

Depends on which transmission is in your Jeep. But I can assure you it is internal in your transmission. Some transmissions share a low reverse band located internally at the rear of the transmission. The bad or the shell that the band clamps onto is shot. More than likely your looking at a full rebuild.
