i have a 2001 Cherokee Limited 4x4. the engine light stays on and does
not blink until we slow down to go around a corner and then light starts to
blink and the engine starts to spit and sputter, like it is not getting enough
fuel. We pull over and shut engine off and start it right back up and it goes
for a long way with out doing it again. Can you give me some ideas of what
might be the problem. Some told us it was the catalatic converter was
plugged so we have changed that and it is still doing it.
Start by changing the fuel filter. Also should get the vehicle scanned for any codes. This would point you in the direction for repair.
got the jeep scanned and it came up "large emission leak" can you explain this and tell me the fix.
I would get more specific info from whoever read the codes but maybe that is an EVAP system problem.

P0445 JEEP - EVAP Purge Solenoid Circuit...Possible causes Faulty Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Purge Solenoid Control Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Purge Solenoid Control harness is open or shorted Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Purge Solenoid Control circuit poor electrical connection.....The Evaporative Emission System (EVAP) Canister Purge Volume Control Solenoid Valve controls flow rate of fuel vapor from the EVAP canister. The opening of the vapor by-pass passage in the EVAP canister purge volume control solenoid valve changes to control the flow rate. The EVAP canister purge volume control solenoid valve repeats ON/OFF operation according to the signal sent from the Engine Control Module (ECM). The opening of the valve varies for optimum engine control. The optimum value stored in the ECM is determined by considering various engine conditions. When the engine is operating, the flow rate of fuel vapor from the EVAP canister is regulated as the air flow changes. The EVAP canister purge volume control solenoid valve uses a ON/OFF duty to control the flow rate of fuel vapor from the EVAP canister. The EVAP canister purge volume control solenoid valve is moved by ON/OFF pulses from the ECM. The longer the ON pulse, the greater the amount of fuel vapor that will flow through the valve.......P0442 JEEP - Evaporative Emission Control Small Leak Detected.... Possible causes Missing or loose fuel cap Incorrect fuel filler cap used Fuel filler cap remains open or fails to close Foreign matter caught in fuel filler cap EVAP canister or fuel tank leaks EVAP system hose leaking Fuel tank leaking....The Engine Control Module (ECM) tests the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) system for the following conditions: - Large and small leaks - Excess vacuum - Purge flow during non-commanded conditions - Fuel Level and Fuel Pressure sensor faults - EVAP Purge and Vent Valve faults The ECM monitors the Fuel Tank Pressure sensor in order to determine the level of vacuum/pressure in the EVAP system. The ECM commands both the EVAP Purge Solenoid and the EVAP Vent Valve ON when the conditions are met in order to apply an engine vacuum to the EVAP system. The ECM commands the EVAP Purge Solenoid OFF once the system has reached a predetermined level of vacuum. This test verifies if a vacuum can be achieved in the EVAP system. Failure to develop a vacuum may be caused by a large leak or a restriction.
tonight we got these two codes "multiple cylinder misfire P0300 and then "evaparative emissions leak" P0455 are these to be fixed by what was stated about with checking evap canister and lines
Yes, look above for the po455, it is a gross leak. P0300 JEEP - Cylinder Misfire Fault Detected Random Cylinders... Possible causes; Faulty spark plug (s), Faulty ignition coil (s), Clogged or faulty fuel injector (s), Intake air leak, Fuel injectors harness is open or shorted, Fuel Injectors circuit poor electrical connection, Ignition coils harness is open or shorted, Ignition coils circuit poor electrical connection, Insufficient cylinders compression, Incorrect fuel pressure.... The P0300 code means that a cylinder(s) is misfiring or is randomly misfiring. Start by checking for intake leaks, intake gaskets are common caused of multi-cylinder misfiring. If no leak are found the next step is to replace the spark plugs. If the problem persist more tests needs to be done to diagnose problem.
