I have a glove trapped in my rear hatch of my Countryman...can't get the glove out and cannot get the hatch opened because of that...any ideas?!!

Thank you very much. I ended up taking it to the dealer and they corrected it in 10 seconds!! They pulled the latch up on the outside of the door and then jerked up the door with their left hand holding onto the lower left corner of the hatch door. He said you had to be careful not to put to much force on the latch itself and put most of the force on the corner of the door...but that solved it!! Thank you so much for your suggestions!!

I just had the exact same situation with a bag strap and my Countryman and was able to get it fixed based on what I read here. If you have someone to help have them hold the latch open but if you are alone, like me, then keep the latch open by stuffing some cloth in there. Once the latch was held open I pulled the seat backs down and climbed in. One swift kick to the inside of the boot did the trick.

Agree with the above - brilliant advice' I stuffed cloth in to hold open the latch, put the seats down & gave it a kick from inside as was on my own, wasn't even a hard kick.. Worked a treat

Bless you all! The gentle kick worked great. I was about to lose my mind, as the trunk light was triggered on and I was worried my battery would die.

OMG thank you internet! I had a blanket caught and tried cutting, burning, etc. lol. I put towel under latch outside, went inside and gave it a gentle kick. Brilliant!

OMG! I got my son’s coat stuck in the latch of my rear door on my Honda! I didn’t know how I was goi g to get it out after having tried to pull it out! Followed the instructions of using one hand to open the latch and the other to pull in the bottom left hand side of the door AND IT WORKED!!! Thank you!

Thanks Team, I have a BMW 118 and got a bag strap caught in it. A couple of hours with knives, skewers, forceps and no result other than cramps in legs and sore shoulders. Then I read your advice. Stuffed a cloth in boot latch and crawled inside and gave it a gentle kick. Eureka!!! Thanks so much

Hello, I can't find the answer and my coat is stuck by the lock of my car trunk (mini cooper country man) what can I do?

Hey Yops123. It's super easy. Make sure the hatch lock is unlocked. Reach in from the front and clear out the trunk so you can get yourself back there. Have someone hold the latch open on the outside of the car or just stuff a cloth in so it's 'open'. Give a swift kick (not too hard, not too soft) in the bottom center of the door (from the inside). It should pop open. (massively satisfying)

worked, stuffed towel to keep hatch latch open on outside, layed on my back and kicked hatch open with both feet near the hatch latch from the inside

My God, thank you for the gentle kick tip. Caught my coat in the hatch of wife's Cooper. Dealer wanted 150 euro just to look at it. Gentle kick worked instantly. Life saver. And I'll never know you.

Thanks everyone. We had a backpack strap stuck. Tried all of the above then finally tried all of it together. Pulled the outdoor latch up, pulled the lower part of the door as well and got my teenager to kick it from inside the boot too. After a couple of swift extra kicks it finally released. Talk about a design fault!

I had a backpack strap stuck in the hatch lock of my mini and just opened the back hatch by following this advice...held outside latch up with right hand and pulled up on left lower corner of hatch with left hand and Voila! Thanks so much for this post!

we had the same problem and using a claw gardening tool with thin cloth wrapped around its tines to avoid scratching paint and me lifting on outer latch and my wife lifting the claw worked instantly and no real exertion. see attached photo (without cloth wrapping)

I wasn’t hopeful when I googled trying to find how to get my boot open after trapping my rucksack strap. Then I find this thread and find I’m not the only Countryman owner to do this. I tried holding the handle and prising with left hand, but ended up sitting in my boot kicking the door. It took about 10 minutes (I moved my car to somewhere quiet, so not many people saw me) I’d cut the strap to get my bag out, but left enough length to hold on to. Took a bit of effort, but all seems fine now. Thank you to everyone who posts on threads like this. It saved a trip to the garage (and probably a bill for someone else to kick my door)

OMG, i have just managed to open my boot which got jammed on the sleeve of my jacket. Just lifted the latch, went in, kicked the door not too much strength needed, after all the stress it's OPEN, i must say I screamed Yesssssss! Thank you!!

This totally worked. A piece of a shopping bag had gotten stuck in the latch, We just had one person hold the latch up and the other lift up the left side of the trunk and voila, it opened. Thank goodness for these for posts. I was worried I would have to take my 2016 Countryman to the dealer and pay $$$ to have this fixed. It was relatively easy, no exertion, no kicking the inside of the boot. Thank you!!!

Thanks for the tip. My boot was stuck for some reason (nothing was caught on it). I was fearing having to take it be fixed. However, thanks to you guys I held the latch open with some cloths, and then got inside and gave a few gentle kicks in the centre of the door where the lock is located. Then I stepped outside and tried opening it and voila! It worked. Brilliant tip. Thanks again.

This thread was a life saver! Not only was the trunk jammed but all my interior lights were on and nothing would shut off because the trunk was technically still in the open latch ! I read this thread cleaned out my trunk from the inside made sure the latch was up and went inside and kicked it out ! So excited !
