Question type: Maintenance & Repair

only does when cold outside (like 32 or below or high windchills, even when
warmed up for 30 mins. and driven for 20+ miles. We have had transmission
changed even though it wasn't time yet and was told there was no metals or
any signs of issues.  All fluids have been checked.

sounds like the ring gear is chafing against the bell housing...I suspect that bolts were tightened with some debris that rubs against the gear producing the "whining sound"...don't know anything else down there that might do that...have it disassembled and the mechanic will find his missing socket~
