Antifreeze Leak on 2012 Altima

Asked by dannnyjos Nov 24, 2017 at 01:47 PM about the 2012 Nissan Altima 2.5 S

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

After changing o-ring and gasket on oil cooler at
Nissan dealership my car is slowly leaking
antifreeze. Im having to refill my coolant reservoir
every 3 days or so. Dealer says that engine coolant
has nothing to do with the oil cooler job they did 3
weeks ago. Any idea why the coolant might start
leaking after a gasket change on the oil cooler, or
is it just a big coincidence?

Yeah, took it back for a leak check and it turns out the water pump needs replacement now. It just seems too coincidental that it failed right after the oil cooler change. The stealership wants $540 to replace the pump... bummer :(

Dump the dealer and find a good independent shop.

Understood F_O_R... thing is, I live in a small town and finding a reliable mechanic is not too easy... I also figure that changing the water pump on an Altima is not a simple procedure (the pump itself only costs ~$50, thus much of the $540 price has to be labor). I always thought that dealer were the most qualified since they're specialized on a specific car brand; then again, they're the most expensive. I'll call a few shops in town but I'm not holding my hopes up...
