Warming up

Question type: General

Is there a reason my car seems to take a while to
warm up. I know its freezing here in NY but it
seems to take at least 15 minutes for it to do so.
And if after about 10 minutes I put it in drive it
won't go anywhere. It's like as if I'm in park. Just to
add my heat is excellent.

Also need to add that when the car finally kicks into gear it really kicks in. Gives a jolt. I'm figuring it has something to do with the transmission so want to add it seems to shift fine when I'm driving.
