2002 Sebring Limited Convertible Diagnostic Code P0740

Asked by oviedosteve May 10, 2008 at 12:40 AM about the 2002 Chrysler Sebring LX Convertible FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I understand code means "torque converter clutch circuit" but I can feel no change in driving characteristics.  Had transmission serviced with oil and filter change plus an additive.  Car ran for about 40 miles before light came on with same code.  Still detect no change in driving characteristic.

Dealer wants $600 to look inside transmission before giving me estimate for repair.  What is likely problem?  Should I keep driving auto until it drives as though something is wrong?

Torque convertor clutch solenoid locks and unlocks the transmission from the torque convertor above certain speeds to increase fuel mileage. I would pay to have this checked because if the TCC system fails, you can stall out when decelerating which can cause an accident or other problems, leaving you stranded.

sometimes on a chrysler a p07-- code can be set when the fluid and filter is changed all you have to do to correct the problem most of the time is do a trans re-learn most auto scanners can do this and the tranny will be okay. if you aren't havin any problems just get someone to clear the code with a scanner and see if it comes back. and make sure the place that serviced the transmission used atf+4 chrysler fluid, it has special friction modifiers that are crucial for tcc operation.
