There would be a problem with the starter drive. Would need to take the starter off to be serviced. Also you need to get the overheating problem fix, it just don't go away, if it overheated once it will do it again until it is fix.

Sounds like the starter, I own a 2004 Sebring and it's a pain to get the starter out, if you don't know much about cars, this will be a job for a pro to do.

You need a new starter and find the overheating issue.chk coolant temp sensor, water pump etc. cooling system. does it leak coolant? or was it low on coolant. They are known for coolant leaks. You didnt overheat it because it went in limp mode and you didnt realize it did it?
