Spark plug firing rod in cylinder head?

Asked by Guru8KF4G Jan 04, 2020 at 10:20 PM about the 2011 Ford F-150 XLT SuperCrew 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Replacing my spark plugs? One broke off half
way in the threads. We got it out eventually,
but the firing rod fell into the cylinder head.
We haven’t had any luck getting it out. Any
ideas? Or what would the consequences be
of leaving it in there?

Chewing gum on end of a coat rod ? Consequences ...? You'll still have 7 cylinders, Not too bad..

Remove a couple of other plugs to reduce the compression. Turn the bottom crank to move the cylinder upward. Try compressed air through a quarter inch, or smaller tube inserted into the hole. Or use one of those "grabbers" usually used to retrieve small screws and bolts which always seem to fall into locations not accessible to fingers.
