Most definitely if any metal touches the positive terminal if it is going to a ground it will cause the problem you are having.

Here's a problem that a LOT of Nissan owners having been having, since 2005, at the very least. I'm SHOCKED that Nissan hasn't had recalls over this issue! If you're having the problem of your engine hesitating/jerking, and then completely shutting off (while you're driving), you'll want to check out the following link and video as well (Nissan probably either needs to hire these guys, or, at least pay them a finders fee, for figuring out that it appears to be the cam sensor that's malfunctioning): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TEslUq2- d2A

The short answer is, that in many cases, the camshaft sensor was malfunctioning, and needed to be replaced. My vehicle is doing it as well. I'm going in for my second time to have the issue addressed (they couldn't replicate or find anything wrong the last time that I went in). Now, I have a pretty good idea as to the likely cause, and will insist that they make the required repairs, especially since my vehicle is just over a year old, and still well within its bumper to bumper warranty.

My 2003 Nissan pathfinder would stall while driving after 40 or 50 miles, when the engine was hot. After it cooled off, it would start and run again. The cause: the camshaft position sensor shorts out when it gets hot, and works when it cools off. I replaced it and the problem was solved!
