I have 2011 gmc acadia. When I push my defroster button the light is on but there is no air coming from the defrost. It stays on the vents. What is the problem?

We haven't taken it in. We called and they said it sounds like the door and it could cost anywhere from 500 to 1500 dollars. Are there any cost effective solution? We need the defroster.
