Back brake and signal lights not working

Asked by GuruB3JZ1 Jan 26, 2019 at 08:38 PM about the 2011 Ford Escape XLT FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Started off my right signal in the back  quit
working, then the left signal in the back quit,
I replaced bulbs, then my brake lights and
signals quit on both sides, was told brake
switch was faulty, I replaced it, signals
worked for short time and quit again, I had
fuses checked, they were good, I replaced
them anyway to be sure, now I have brakes
and signal light on left side, the right side
came on for a short while now they are out
again.  Please help, I can't afford a ticket nor
go to mechanic over and over. Not long ago
had a/c compressor replaced and guess
what? It still sounds like a group of birds
singing their hearts out under my hood while
engine idles.

I'm going through the same issue with my 2012 Escape. Very frustrating and dangerous, Dropping it off at the dealers today, Not too happy I purchased this vehicle, it has been one issue or another again and again. My last vehicle was a GMC Envoy, lasted over 180,00 and never had issues like this vehicle does, I'll let you know what the issue is

It ended up being the tow package not installed correctly, melted the housing it was connected to. Took it off, no more signal troubles.

Just found out it was a faulty module that was put in for the tow package, The module was recalled so U Haul is replacing it for free, however I have to pay the diagnostic charge at the dealer

I was having same issues. I had a tow package installed and found it was a rusty ground wire behind my drivers side tail light. Cleaned it off and secured it again...everything working fine again for now.
