Question type: Maintenance & Repair

HEEELLPPPPPP!!! I recently bought a bmw 2008
535i and the first week the gasket was broken
(dealer paid to fix) now the left fuel pump is broken
(dealer wants to go 50/50)  i was told the breaks
are new but sensors need to be
reprogrammed/reset but after being told that they
are starting to squeem i was told its aftermarket
brakes. Oil cap had got broken when hasket was
changed. (Is this a scam should i return the car to
the used dealership)

Those repairs are fairly minor so if this is too much for you sell the car and buy a Toyota or take the bus. If you keep the car find a good independent BMW mechanic.

Fuel pump failures are unpredictable, they happen. On a 9 year old vehicle things wear out. Sounds like it needed brakes so someone put the cheapest ones on it they could find. The oil pan gasket is pretty common on these cars so, again, after 9 years I'm really not surprised that it needed replacing. The oil cap, order one from your local auto parts store. It's a $5 replacement item. As F O R said, find a shop that specializes in imports. DON'T take it to your local garage or chain type of repair facility!! They'll have no idea of what they're looking at. My Nephew learned that lesson the hard way with his '98 528i. As far as taking it back to the used car dealership, good luck with that. Unless you got some kind of warranty you're stuck with this car! I'd take them up on the 50/50 offer to do the fuel pump then move on. They really don't have to do that, unless you have a warranty. Even then I'd be afraid to let just anyone work on it! Remember, most used vehicles are out there for sale for a reason. There's almost always something that needs fixing that the previous owner didn't want to spend the money on. So they traded it in. HTH. -Jim

You bought a used BMW with out a warranty? LOL, you are not going to be happy with all the repairs and costs.
