Bmw E90 2005 power steering stiff.

My BMW E90 steering became stiff after being feather light.
What  signs should I look for and how to go about this

I would inspect the power steering reservoir first. Is it filled with fluid? Any power steering fluid leaks? Remove the belly pan under the car to check. Also with the engine one, does the power steering pump make noise?
