Oil light

Asked by Jeffery Apr 19, 2018 at 12:58 PM about the 2003 BMW 3 Series 330xi Sedan AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just bought my BMW yesterday (used). I began to
have the issue where the oil light came on about a
minute after the engine was running and only
stayed on for 2-3 secounds... this would only have
everytime the engine was started. So once it went
off it never came back on untill the engine was
restarted.. well I had an appointment to get my oil
and tires done today. It’s been 4 hours after I had
left the shop and the oil just start doing the same
thing again. About a minute after the engine was
started the light came on for about 2-3 secounds
and didn’t come on again until the engine was
restarted.... unless I’m wrong I don’t think it could
be low oil pressure because the car runs great! I’m
kinda lost as to what it could be.. bad sensor?

I would have the oil pressure checked with a mechanical gauge to make sure your engine is not damaged by low oil pressure. I don't know who you bought it from but I would put them on notice that this car may be a piece o' junk.
