cutting out after about 3 grand

Alright, new problem, when I get into the gas a little the hits about 3 grand and falls flat on its face. It just happened, I checked the plugs and they look ok maybe a little lean but not terrible. I'm thinking its fuel related like a weak pump but dont want to replace it to find out thats not the problem. Any help would be great, thanks

Is it 3000 RPM specifically or when you get on the gas? Reason I ask, I had a similar problem where the fuel filter was clogged. When I got on it, the lack of fuel flow starved the motor and it stumbled until I let my foot off the gas. Replacing the fuel filter was an easy fix.

Thanks for the help, that is the first thing I'm going to change. Hopefully that fixes it, not looking foward to chasing ghosts! Thanks again
Another thing to check in the CPS or crank position sensor
a common cause of rev limiting in BMW's are the air mass meter, mounted on teh side of the airbox, try unplugging it and see if it will then free rev. if it does it is likely your issue
Yea purchase some MAF sensor cleaner at the auto part store and clean it. Also wouldn't hurt to clean your IAT (Intake Air Temp senor) also while you're at it. Additionally purchase some carb/intake cleaner and clean out throttle body and ICV (Idle Control Valve).

Cleaned out the MAF and it is still doing it. Had an import mechanic look at it, and he thinks it's the air meter going bad. I guess when they go bad thats how they act and it won't send a check engine code either. So i'm going to swap it out and see what happens, I'll let post the results when I do it, Thanks for all the help.
