What rights do I have as a used car buyer?

Asked by GuruVLB2V Mar 10, 2020 at 09:49 AM about the 2011 BMW 5 Series 528i Sedan RWD

Question type: General

I purchased a 2011 BMW 528i (less than two weeks ago) that I found on CarGurus, the vehicle had a recall on it and when I took it to the dealership to get the recall work done they advised me that the valve cover gaskets needed replacing, the thrustrod bushings and also the front porkchops.  I called the car dealer that I purchased the car from and the salesman said that he would check with someone and call me back and I have yet to hear from him.  Do I have any means of getting satisfaction since I bought the car used?

Buying a 9 years old BMW is a crap shoot at best. You probably bought the car as is which means you are on your own. The dealer may just be upselling you anyway. You really need to find a good independent BMW mechanic! Next time have the car inspected Before you buy!

FOR Is right. BMW Dealers also like to find things that need work that you can keep driving it. But your car probably has around or over 100K miles it, and it's time to start replacing parts, aka normal wear items. The Valve cover gasket leaking and is a common wear item. Also the Front control Arm bushings. The selling dealer usually will warranty the vehicle for a drivetrain malfunction, but like FOR said you probably bought it As Is. Don't let the dealer do the work, it will be double than what an independent can do it for. Buying a used BMW is only recommended if you can wrench on the car yourself or have a lot of dough.
