If my bmw 328i has 8 inch wide wheels is there any reason not to replace them with 7.5 inch wide wheels?

I have a 2011 328i xdrive.  I am thinking of replacing my wheel with aftermarket products.  My stock wheels are 17 x 8.  can they be replaced with 17x7.5?  What would be the reason not to?
