2011 camry check engine ligth flashing

Asked by GuruD4ZQL2 Jul 01, 2023 at 05:58 PM about the 2011 Toyota Camry Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I took my 2011 camry for a short trip and the check engine light started flashing
then went off, came back on, and then flashed.  The traction control light also
came on.  The car has shuddered at 40mph and was running roughly. The trans
mission shifted smoothly.

Then you need to at least get the codes for both the check engine and the traction control systems. Could be something as simple as a bad connection or ground in either system.

A flashing check engine light is warning you that the engine is misfiring and damaging the catalytic converter. It needs to be looked at sooner rather than later. Most likely you need a tune up. The traction control light is a different issue. Hope that helps! Jim

When a computer turns on the CEL, it cancels cruise control and traction controls by default. If the flashing CEL was sudden, you might just have a defective gas cap, or one that isn't properly tightened. Or it might be an EVAP problem where the pollution controls have a fault. You don't know cars, so just do what you should do anyway. Check the gas cap or just buy a new one. If that doesn't fix it, take it to a mechanic to check out and repair.
