Tail Lights

Asked by northernman Oct 06, 2014 at 06:38 PM about the 2010 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2010 GMC Sierra and my tail lights and marker lights quit working. I have no
power to the fuses but if I jump the relay I can power to the fuses and the tail lights and
markers work. Tried other relays and the same thing occurs no tail lights.

Sounds like the relay might be bad. Take another relay from something else in the fuse box and put in place of the tail light relay. See if that works. If it does you just need a new one.

Hhhhmmmmmm...... I'd say you might have a broken, pinched or corroded wire(s) somewhere. The truck is only 5 years old but that stuff can happen. Was it worked on recently?

It could be the trailer wiring if you have a tow package?

I have the tow package, but seems funny that when I jump the relay the fuses all get power and all the tail lights and markers come on. If the trailer wires where broke I shouldn't get lights and if there was a short it should pop fuses. No?

You may be right but it is wiring and a lil hard to analize over a web page. The truck is new enough it might have a module to control the taillights. If that's the case it runs through the BCM. If you don't see anything obviously wrong then I would take it to a REPUTABLE mechanic.
