Ram 1500, new battery, new starter, worked for ~10 starts, then no crank.

Asked by Carl Mar 06, 2023 at 03:56 PM about the 2010 Dodge RAM 1500 TRX4 Crew Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Replaced the starter and battery in my 2010 Ram 1500, worked wonderfully for ~10 times, then no crank, not even a click. All other electrics/electronics work.
Took off starter, dried it out, thought it might have been frozen, not starter relay swapped to see if it was bad or it's fuse, all seems to be okay.
Tried starting in neutral, same result.

maybe in those ten starts, the alternator failed to properly recharge the battery. Have it checked.

No, battery is right up there, had a charger on it. If only the battery was low, it would still click when you turned the key. Vehicle has full gauges, even have voltage reading on a USB charging dongle, no idiot lights.

Was it a remanufactured starter? If it was chances are high that you got a bad one especially if it doesn’t do anything.
