I've heard that some engines have a water pump with plastic impellors that deteriorate and break off making it unable to pump coolant. So while the engine is fully warmed up, carefully look down into the radiator to see if coolant is circulating while revving up the engine. If coolant isn't moving, you may have to remove the pump for inspection. And if it's plastic, it would be a good time to replace it with a metal blade pump.
