Not Shifting Into Overdrive

So my car as of late will not shift into overdrive and
it causes the computer logic in my transmission to
fall into fail safe or limp mode on long trips.
Accelerates GREAT, drives VERY GOOD, but when I
try to give it extra power, it slips and it doesn't go
into overdrive. I am thinking this could be a bad
solenoid issue or something with the computer
system itself? Is this something that can be fixed?

The first thing to check would be the fluid level to make sure it has enough in it

I think you may be correct there sir cause I went in and did a fluid change last time I was at the shop and when I drove back out again it made that whining noise and it went into that limp mode again. Could it also be that the fluid isn't flowing properly into the sensor or valve body? Do you think this is something where it's a minor repair type?
It's very plausible but there's not alot in the way of minor repair on an automatic transmission because of the amount of work involved and all the specialized tools that are normally required. Do you have the check engine light on? If so what's the code? Sometimes the TCM will send a code to the ECU, it's usually just a generic code to say theres something up but sometimes it will help pinpoint the issue. Maybe you'll get lucky and it's just the Vehicle Speed Sensor sending bad info to the computer?
I have the same probom on my 1997 Sentra not shifting in to overdrive res good on long trip but just won't give me extra power when I need a little bit uphill lungs sometime it comes and goes no check eng. on no codes just in limp mode is there any way to by pass the limp mode ?????
