I have a 2010 Mercedes Benz GLK350 I bought used 2.5 years ago for $30k with 50k miles on it. It now has 120k miles. Just took it in for service and it needs the differential replaced for $4k, plus some other work. Do I have the work done and keep it to hand off to my 15 y/o in a couple of years or trade it in now without doing the work. Bluebook is between $10k-$14k.

Trade it in, get a cheap car for your 15 year old, because every kid will get into an accident with their first car.

You can forget Blue Book Value. With that many miles and needed repairs - the dealer will really stick it to you. (You can be sure they will seem to inflate your value to do a trade). Have it repaired - but not at a Mercedes dealer and drive it until you are able to trade without the pressure of an impending car failure.
