2009 A8 Quattro 4.2 hood latch is broken. Can I fix this myself?

Hood latch won't open the hood.  Is this something I can fix myself?

Try having someone push down on the hood while you pull the lever....if that doesn't work, try using vise grips on the cable itself right behind the lever
