2009 Hyundai Sante Fe mpg reading fluctuates

Asked by buddy98512 Feb 14, 2016 at 07:04 PM about the 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe 2.7L GLS AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

After a lady side swiped my car, had repair done requiring welding.  Now, mpg reading fluctuates wildly.  They claimed they unhooked negative cable b4 welding MPG reading goes from 20 to 99 to 6, etc.
Thanks, Buddy

Not knowing the intricacies of this particular system, I can only say that it could be possible that they didn't disconnect it, but then I would believe that if that were true, you would have a lot more problems then just the crazy MPG readings. Most likely it is just coincidental to the time the car was worked on and really has nothing to do with it and could just be a failed part in the system of that the on-board computer needs to be re- flashed or updated for some reason.
