How do I extend the time that I can use the 110 outlet or watch tv while the engine isn't running?

Asked by Sep 10, 2017 at 02:29 PM about the 2009 Chevrolet Express LT 1500

Question type: Car Customization

I ran a hot wire from my starter battery to a fuse to a smart solenoid to a fuse to
another battery.  When the engine is running the solenoid connects the
batteries so they both charge but that would mean that when just in accessory
they are not connected and it's not doing me any good cause I'm just draining
the starter battery.

Add a second accessory battery.

Thats what I'm trying to do but I think everything runs off the one battery so I'm just trying to back up the main.

Is this a conversion vehicle? If your just wanting to run a TV from a power port it would be best to install another power port and wire it directly to you auxiliary battery and leave you setup the way it is, so then your coach batter remains hot ans your aux drives all your additional equipment. Wired like a motorhome, two separate battery systems, but they link together when the engine is running so all the batteries are charging from the vehicles alternator.

If you have the room adding a battery is easy. Just wire them in parallel so that you have 12 volts instead of 24. The inverter should be attached to the accessory battery(s).
