I have a 2009 Lincoln MKS and It's been sputtering. The Check engine light is not on, but sometimes when it's sputtering really bad, it flashes and then it goes off. What could it possibly be?

A flashing check engine light = severe engine misfiring.. do NOT drive the vehicle have it serviced ASAP or the catalytic converter can be destroyed. a little expensive.
