Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I hi guys, I would like to know what it the correct operating temperature for this vehicle
it seems to be running to hot.  The  fan turns on when the temperature reaches about 240 F
and turns off when the temperature drops  to about 220F. The issue that I have is that when the fan is about to turn on and I turn the engine off sounds like is overheating
since the fan did not get to cool off.
thankyou I appreciate your help.

That sounds about right. My 85 Z28 fans come on at about those same temps. From what I have found this is normal for these cars. Although mine does not make any sounds when I turn it off hot. I suspect your radiator cap might need to be replaced. If it's old it could be letting pressure off when it shouldn't be and this would sound like its overheating .
