Buying a used vehicle.

Asked by Nico Apr 07, 2021 at 11:09 PM about the 2008 Kia Sportage LX V6 4WD

Question type: General

Would it be worth it to buy a 2008 Kia Sportage with 203,000 miles? There are
no issues with the vehicle other than the frontal brake pads/rotors needing to be
replaced and the TPMS in the rear right tire, but otherwise, there are no other
known issues. Also would it be bad to take a high milage car on a long road
trip?

The first consideration is the price. The second is the overall mechanical condition. The third is a strong service history. Buying a used vehicle is a crap shoot. Especially an older model with some mileage on it. Look at the vehicle history report and see if it's had frequent maintenance. Look for accidents and multiple owners. Look for recurring problems. Have the vehicle looked at by your mechanic or a professional inspection company. I've used lemonsquad.com for inspections with excellent results. This vehicle can last several years or it could break down tomorrow. I bought my 03 S10 Pick Up with 264,000 miles on it for $300 and it's been a great little truck. I initially put about $1,000 into it so as far as I'm concerned it cost me $1,300. That was 10 years ago! The truck now has 299,000 miles on it and still runs like a champ! It's never left me stranded and has cost very little to keep going over the years. As far as a long trip, if the vehicle is sound, why not? When I bought my 94 Fleetwood I drove it 600 miles home from North Carolina to New Jersey without a problem. Hope that helps! Jim

A high mile Kia? I might give $50 if it ran.
