Question type: Maintenance & Repair

..I replaced the valve cover gasket and appeared to fix low oil issue. Engine
stopped while i was driving. Now Engine makes knocking sound. Does this
mean the motor is ruined? Is there another fix other than new engine?

Maybe your issue wasn't low oil but low oil pressure due to a failed oil pump?

It's 4 cylinder. So you think a new oil pump, and would pistons and rings need to be replaced? would that fix knocking? Is the engine salvageable? Or should I just go to U Pull It? As soon as I boosted it back off and heard the knocking noise I shut off engine. I poured 4 qts oil, started it; still knocking noise. I shut it back down and have not started it back up,

I found the following The problem was said to be related to defective pars in the 2AZ-FE engine that all of the above vehicles share. The repair procedure consisted of replacing the piston and piston ring set and was covered under Toyota Powertrain Warranty for vehicles within 60 months or 60,000 miles of purchase. Unfortunately for a big portion of Toyota owners, the problem started manifesting itself after the warranty expired.

Sounds like you ran out of oil and thus the engine now has knocking noises. 9DH above is correct...although the warrenty was extended to 150000 miles and 10 years some time ago. Original owners were notified by mail. Suggestion. Check junk yards near you for a replacement engine which has had the rings and pistons replaced. Compare the cost of replacement engine to the present day value of this vehicle. Consider the mileage on the vehicle....make your decision. Good luck.
