my fiesta misfires, sometimes looses power and the engine light flicks

Of  late  my  ford flicks  the  engine  light, looses  power  such  that  i  
sometimes  have  to  go  on low  gear, petrol  consumption increrased and  has  
a  misfire  at  the  exhaust.  Strange thing is  sometime  it  gets  power. Help
please
