what could cause all 4 cylinders to loose compression

Asked by sandrasmith Jul 25, 2014 at 02:46 PM about the 2008 MINI Cooper Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2008 mini cooper base 80,000 miles loosing compression in all 4 cylinders. mechanic having to do a tear down of the engine to find the cause. If sludge found in engine the service contract will not cover the cost. Vehicle purchased 30 days ago. Passed all quality safety inspections prior to purchase. Mechanic believes it is an engine failure however as stated earlier if sludge is found in the engine no coverage per service contract. Oil looked clean. What could cause slugde in the engine?

Possibly a head/gasket issue, common to all cylinders would be a better guess than sludge.
