From what I understand the filter and pump are both integrated into the bottom of the gas tank. Not sure if it might be consumer serviceable though... Best to take it to the dealer and use that shiney warrentee

Yep; the fuel filter is integrated into the pump and isn't a serviceable piece. Its supposed to be a 100,000 mile filter but everybody knows how that goes. Its accessed by dropping the tank or removing the bed and pulling the pump out of the top of the tank.

wrong, look under cab ,along frame on back side you will see the gas filter, round and about 4 inches long, what above post is talking about is a sock that fits on fuel pump.just look along frame rail you will see it.

The NNBS trucks went back to a frame mounted filter? In '04 all GM trucks with the exception of the Duramax and flex fuel went to a non-serviceable in-tank filter. In '05 all gas engines went to that setup. I'm hoping they did go back to the inline filter but hadn't heard anything of them changing anything.

whoever found a "filter" on the fuel line did not find a fuel filter, i don't know what he found. Manufacturers were forced to put the filter in the tank for emissions reasons. the reason for this is to get you to take your vehicle to a shop to have it fixed. when you take the filter off, opening up the fuel lines and maybe spilling a little bit of fuel on the ground, they decided that that creates enough emissions to be concerned about. bullshit huh

Had my truck vandalized; had to change fuel filter (among other things) as a result. It is in the tank on the pump. 2007 1500.

I have changed the inline fuel filter on my new 1988 Silveradom new 1997, my new 2004 GMC and now my 2007 Silverado. Well ithought i was going to change the filter on my 2007 but guess what? There is no inline filter hiding in the frame right under the drivers side door like all the others. It doesnt exist. Despite that OReillys and Auto Zone will be glad to sell you one cause they dont know better either, check them online. LOL. Only way now to change a filter is to change the entire sending unit that sits in the top of the fuel tank which i have done many times. You have apump and a float and a filter all together. Cute a whole in the floor of the bed, make it big enough that you can spin the retain ring counter clock wise, unhook everything, pull it out, replace with real GM parts, please none of that Chinese stuff. Put the cut out floor back in with one inch heavy strap in the bottom of the corregated floor pattern, silicone, replace bedliner, no one will ever know but you and then you will be ready next time. Guaranteed to fail about 125 thousand miles. easy fix.

there are 8 bolts to remove to take the box off. they come out easy. unplug the tail lights, undo the filler cap and your in business . no hole in box.
