starter stays engaged. already replaced starter selenoid relay. still the starter stays engaged

starter stays engaged it originally started
with the brake lights going out and would
not function we replaced all the bulbs in the
tail we get in the truck turn it over and it
goes boom boom boom the next day we
teplaced the starter solenoid relay the
starter and the battery still the same
problem what do I do now

Was the starter shimmed? Can the pinion gear slide back freely? Is the solenoid staying energized?
