do I need to add hitch hardware to my bumper?

Asked by Normstruck May 25, 2009 at 11:59 AM about the 2008 Dodge RAM 1500 SLT Mega Cab 4WD

Question type: General

my bumper says, 5000#, 500# but only has hole for a ball and the wiring plug. the cooling is heavy duty, the shifter has the "tow" option. But, on the factory invoice, it says "no" for the tow section. Is this a mistake or is my bumper set up for simply adding the ball? thanks

as long as you stay within the 5000, 500 lb. guidelines you said were written on the bumper than you should be fine but anything over that then you should probably get a proper hitch bar & all the bonus junk that comes in that scene

there is a bumper hitch that bolts to the tube frame under the bumper for a $ 100.00 it is designed for the intergrated bumper hitch on it. thats what my 2007 4x4 came with. you can get it at many part store or the dodge dealer

I have the same question the rv dealer says the hitch is rated for 5000lbs but with weight distributing hitch goes up to 10,000 lbs?
