Gear Shift not going into park reliably, draining battery

Asked by GuruGZPCN Aug 15, 2020 at 03:17 PM about the 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe 3.3L Limited AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited. Have noticed when putting into
park, and returning later to start again, will not start. Wiggle the gear shift,
and it will start. I have seen some related chats on this site regarding the non
starting issue, but I have an additional problem. If I do not drive the truck for
a day, the battery goes dead. Could the shifter issue be the cause of this
problem as well? I turn everything off before I get out of the car everytime.

Thank you. I did the search and it does sound like a possibility. I am contacting local dealer for appointment and discussion as well. I have other work to be done, so will not be the only reason to get it in.

Did the neutral safety switch solve your problem? You described exactly what'g happening on my 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe.
