2008 Chevy Cobalt clicking noise

Asked by Clinton Jan 03, 2019 at 10:05 PM about the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt LS Coupe FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I bought a used 2008 cobalt that I've had over a year now.
I've done regular oil changes, but after my most recent oil
change it's making a clicking noise. It's only making this
noise if I'm at 2 rpm or higher. So at higher speeds I don't
notice it but when I'm speeding up, it begins to click. My
buddy said it could be a timing issue, so I was wondering if
anyone could give me some insight.

No, but the tensioner needs to be checked. If it fails and your timing chain skips your engine will likely be done. Get it checked as soon as possible. That noise you’re hearing is all the warning you are going to get.
