Anyone have a clue why my truck randomly goes into limp mode?

Asked by Tuesday Mar 09, 2015 at 06:59 PM about the 2007 Dodge RAM 3500 Laramie Quad Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2007 Dodge Ram 3500 with the deletes done and a basic HP tune.  Even
before the tune I would be driving along and suddenly lose power and noticed my Turbo
isn't boosting over 6-8 lbs.  The only way I have figured out how to get the CPU to
reset and get my power back is to shut down the engine, pull the lead to the MAP
Sensor with the key on, shut the key off and plug it back, finally turn on the key and
start the truck.  I get the check engine light and lightning bolt but they disappear again
on their own.

Dodge blames the programer and the deletes but I know its not that.  I don't want to
waste money on a MAP Sensor if it works under most situations.  Its a very random
thing. It might do it to me once a day, twice a day, and then not for months. It has to
be some kind of error the computer sees from a sensor somewhere and throws it into
limp mode.  And "limp" doesn't begin to describe the lack of power until reset.

Did you get this figured out? Happens to me on my 2012 3500. Dealer has changed a million different things. Now its currently in shop and he is going to replace the tranny harness. Wish me luck!

I have a 2008 Dodge 5500. It basically does the same thing you described as well as maybe once in a blue moon I can sense the turbo begins to pick up the boost and it'll start picking up power again then it goes back out. Did you ever find out a solution for your truck?

Have a 2008 ram 3500 did the ccv and egr delete with no tuners that is doing the same thing in going into limp mode. I disconnected all battery cables and connected them back, unplugged and plugged back all connectors in the TPM (fuse box) to reset the system. Truck worked well for a few minutes and went back to limp mode

How to correct my 2009 dodge 6.7 cummins diesel truck from going into Lymph mode after doing the ERG delete. The lightening bolt comes on when the truck goes into lymph mode for a minute or so and then comes out of it and runs fine. Is a Smarty Junior Tuner necessary to re-program or totally erase the code so that it will not go into lymph mode? tuners are expensive and I do not know if it will totally correct the lymph mode problem. I put in a new turbo at 28,000 miles and wanted the truck to run cleaner!
